The government is awarding contracts to large multinational companies to provide patient care on behalf of the NHS. These contracts are funded with taxpayers’ money, but much of the profit will not be re-invested in the NHS; some will go instead to shareholders. This means that public money is lost to the health service. The BMA disagrees with NHS commercialisation and is campaigning against it.
